Gala Hits Press In the Friday July 2nd Edition of the Boston Citizen the Butterwick 3rd Annual Gala hit the front page. The picture featured is of eleven -year-old Will Gosling having a go at the Penalty Shoot-out, just one of the many attractions at this years Gala, which he went on to win in the under 18 category. The prize he received was a brand new England Football, presented towards the end of a brilliant day. The story featured on the front page is as follows.FUN-LOVING folks had a lively afternoon in Butterwick and raised about £700 for a village project into the bargain. The money raised will be added to £95,244 worth of lottery funding granted back in March, which turned an idea to create a village park into a reality. Work to transform land into the park is due to start as soon as the area is signed over, meaning villagers in both Butterwick and Freiston will have somewhere to enjoy the great outdoors. It’s three years since the project first hit the drawing board, and dedicated volunteers have been working to secure the money they need. Their next challenge is to turn a plot of land – at the junction of Butterwick Road with Old Girls School Lane – into a thriving community park, and for that they need even more help. Mr Hall told The Citizen: “We’re hoping to be getting people working on the land soon. We’ve got a hardy bunch of people who are happy to help out but we need more people to help with planting trees and working on the park in general.” There were smiles all round at the village’s third annual gala on Sunday as young and old alike enjoyed all sorts of games and activities – and watched as a World War Two plane flew over. Project vice-chairman Gideon Hall said: “The gala was a big success, and everyone enjoyed it.” Can you lend a hand? Call Gideon Hall on 01205 760930 to volunteer.
